Get To Know: Jack Whitworth
who are you?
jack whitworth, based in dunstable, bedfordshire.
what started your journey in music?
i’ve been around music my whole life with my dad being a singer & guitarist in a band & my older brother djaying when i was young. i started playing guitar from a young age, discovered dance music, moved onto music production and then djaying.
3 tracks that never leave your usb?
this is a hard one… but if i had to choose:
-
don’t go (gerd janson re-work) – classic go to
-
turn up the bass (fast eddie scratch up mix) – i remember playing this at sulkos a few years back a good few times and it never let me down
-
left, right, hold on tight – mance, an absolute weapon, sounds ridiculous on a good system
biggest goal as a producer/dj right now?
i’d love to release a lot of music this year, and be able to reach further audiences with my sound! i’d like to release at least 5 eps and/or singles this year. i have so much stocked up ready and waiting.
your biggest moment so far?
has to be either playing the mixmag lab just after lockdown or recently playing in a crane at ade for method 808.
name 5 up and coming artists everyone should check out?
- sam girling – ridiculously slept on
- entasia – so many bangers
- reimond – sick, throwing out some belters
- danny snowden – the world needs to get to know
- pirate material – no words needed 😏
piece of advice for new producers/djs?
just spend way too much time in your studio at your computer because the more hours spent the more you’ll figure out and learn. something i wish i did more early on, still figuring so many things out now!
your top 5 djs?
hard one: kettama’s gotta be up there, dan shake plays some absolutely ridiculous sets, palms trax 🐐, ben ufo (goes without saying), ross from friends – his dj sets are something you won’t see or hear anywhere else, papa nugs – just too sick.
biggest challenge in your career so far?
always has been and seems like it always will be social media!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what’s coming up/next for you?
can’t say too much just yet but to the sound is coming in a really sick ep on a label i never thought i’d get on. along with another couple of releases confirmed. again, too early to share too much.
last record you bought?
gsc004 – soul mass transit system - weapons
a track you wish you produced?
don’t u want me edit – soul mass transit system. always loved that lead and think it was used perfectly in this. & it boots…
bucket list club / festival?
to play: fabric, glastonbury, sub club, lost village.
most memorable show?
sulko festival b2b danny snowden.
how do you balance music and life?
i don’t, my life’s a mess.
if you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
raving (more).
who’s one producer you’d love to watch in the studio for a day?
bicep – ridiculous productions, i think there would be so much to learn from those guys.
what club or promoter is pushing the scene forward in your opinion?
mondo disko, madrid – i’ve not been but from what i see and the bookings they make they’re so active and on top of getting in smaller upcoming artists as well as the biggest in the scene.
