Get To Know: Lissy Lübeck

who are you?

hey everyone! i’m lissy lübeck. i’m 28 years old, and i split my time between london in the winter, and ibiza in the summer.

i started out as a dance music journalist, and now i’m also a dj and producer. my two biggest loves? clubbing and sleeping - not the most compatible combo, i know.

what started your journey in music?

music and fashion have always been my two passions in life. i studied fashion at the university of leeds and i always knew my path would end up in one of the two.

while i still love fashion, i’ve chosen to keep it separate from my work life. over the past ten years, everything has led me toward music - it’s the love of my life, and there’s no other industry i’d rather be in.

3 tracks that never leave your usb?

yours – steffi ft. virginia (the original and also the italo bros edit for a little bit more drive)
eau de chante – delicious inc.
dope – butch

biggest goal as a producer/dj right now?

i’ve only been producing for just over a year, and there’s so much to learn. every day i wake up excited to dive into ableton and experiment with new sounds and gear. i have a clear vision of my sound and the kind of tracks i want to create - now it’s all about learning, growing, and putting in the work to be the best i can be.

your biggest moment so far?

i had three dates opening the amnesia ibiza terrace last summer, which was an absolute dream of mine. it’s my favourite club on the island, so to get the call up for not one but three dates is something i'll forever be grateful for.

advice you wish you had sooner?

production takes time and dedication, so if you’re working full-time during the day, you might need to make some sacrifices - including your social life at times. your true friends will understand. this winter i’ve been a bit of a hermit tbh!

don’t follow the crowd - stay true to the sound you love. don’t create tracks just because that sound is popular. make music that genuinely resonates with you and that you’d be excited to hear on the dancefloor.

don’t be afraid to reach out to artists you admire - you’d be surprised how open and supportive this community can be. music is all about uniting, sharing ideas, collaborating and love.

biggest challenge in your career so far?

to be honest, i’ve known i wanted to dj since i was about 17, but i only properly started over the last three years. i do wish i’d started sooner - not really a challenge, more of an afterthought.

the real challenge for me is landing gigs. but i believe that if you’re putting in the work behind the scenes, making authentic content that’ll make you stand out, and connecting with the right people, things will fall into place the way they’re meant to. trust the process is the motto i’m living by right now.

what’s coming up next for you?

i’ve already had two releases this year, including one on a dream label of mine, nervous records.

i’ve actually got two more coming out in Q4 and with this, I’ve seen a rise in gig offers and some really cool opportunities arising!

it’s been hard to carve out time for production in Ibiza when your job is to party, but my whole autumn/winter period will consist of ableton on the daily, and I cannot wait.

i'll also be back in ibiza this summer, in the heart of dance music, where i'll be interviewing some of the biggest djs in the world (and probably partying five days a week), but amongst this, i need to carve out time for production. hopefully, a change of scenery will spark my creativity. ableton on the beach sounds like the perfect setup!

last record you bought?

honestly, apart from clothes, my biggest monthly expense is beatport, lol. i’m constantly buying tracks from bandcamp, traxsource, and beyond.

the last one i picked up was lança perfume - brisotti. it perfectly captures the sound i’m obsessed with - deep, sexy, groove-ridden rollers.

circoloco
paradise

flow
mvson

bucket list club / festival?

your dream collab?

how can i pick just one!? if i'm dreaming big, it would probably be the martinez brothers. i reckon we’d cook up some serious tech house magic together in the studio.
